Mário Costa is an associate professor from the Sport Sciences Department of the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG, Portugal). He is also a STRONG community coordinator at Research Centre in Sport Sciences, Health Sciences and Human Development (CIDESD, Portugal). He holds a PhD in Sport Sciences related to biomechanics and energetics of aquatic sports. He had previous experience in coaching several swimming squads at a local and national level.
His research focus include identifying the most determinant factors and quantifying mechanisms underlying swimming performance. There is also interest in understanding the effects of different training methods in physical form and technical ability from young to senior swimmers. In addition he has also the intent to study and clarify the most appropriate strategies for elementar swimming teaching and aquatic fitness and/or aquatic rehabilitation classes.
